Merry Christmas Eve, Eve

I am not a religious person, but I love Christmas carols... I substitute words as needed. Jebus and what not. I love the harmonies and the feelings and ...   I love the carols.
I heard the bells on Christmas Day has always been my favorite.
Total god song...dunno, I love it.
My favorite Carol since I can remember.
Maybe it was the Viet Nam War and my fear of my brother Grant being in the possible draft.  Grant is my hero, as I am sure I've said before. Always has been. Always will be.
I dunno, the whole peace on earth thing resonates with me.

My family is rooted in God people.
It just didn't take with me. Only the male of the species acquired that trait in my siblings.
Scotty went to his god in his pirate costume complete with hat.
Papa didn't get the hat, but he wasn't really a believer and was bullied into the pirate outfit by Scotty prior to being burned.... funny in the fact that in Scotty's eyes, that's where Papa went. Perhaps?

As for me?

Meet you in hell Dad. Love ya.

A while ago I wondered if that was how a god was kept alive.

Where did the old gods go?
Did people stop singing their praises.
Did they stop tying ribbons to trees near springs.
Did they old gods die or just hibernate?

Do they come back?

The Mayan Apocalypse was the handing over the era from one god to another, as best I've ascertained.

Is that god pissed that I love to sing songs to another god I don't acknowledge?
And by inadvertently acknowledging give him strength?

Fantasy Writer much????

Stupid thought, but I've wondered now for many years.
Does my love of a Carol keep Jebus alive?
Thoughts?

Words if you can't video.

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.

Longfellow really? I didn't know this.

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

I thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along th'unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And in despair I bowed my head:
'There is no peace on earth, ' I said
'For hate is strong, and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.'

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
'God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail,
With peace on earth, good will to men.'

Till, ringing, singing on its way,
The world revolved from night to day
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime,
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

  1. I'm not religious at all, either. It's weird for me working at a Catholic university, 'cause I'm surrounded by crosses and Jesus references. But oh well, I get by. ;)

I enjoy a good Christmas carol too, but I must admit I don't know most of them. :D

    1. As kids we'd go to the old folks home and sing for them, so I know a lot of the songs. Not sure how that tradition started, maybe my mom trying to get us out of the house. ;)

  2. I'm an atheist. xmas carols get on my nerves but not so mucy for content as for the fact that it's the same thing year after year. My mother loves them and has always played them ad nauseum for 6 weeks every year. And you can't get away from them.

    1. I am not a fan of hearing them for weeks and weeks. A couple of days is good and I tend to like the more obscure songs.

  3. Gotta be quick, but I have a few thoughts on this one (big surprise).

True gods (angels, elementals, etc) never "get mad" because they are made of loving energy, which all goes back to/comes from The Source Of Creation (a mysterious and nebulous THING that is nearly unexplainable to our human brains), so you won't be pissing anyone off by singing. Nor will you be saving anyone's life by singing carols either. What you WILL be doing is sending loving words into the atmosphere, and THAT is always a good use of time.

No, they don't die. But they do sort of hibernate until someone needs, or calls on them.

And yes, they are ALL valid.

  4. The best Christmas carols (the one's that endure) are just good songwriting. Seems logical to me that non-Christians would enjoy many of them. Good music is good music. :-)

As for my beliefs--if there's a God who created everything, then every single thing IS God, cause nothing can exist apart from it. So... for me the divine will exist unless we blow up the planet. No, wait, then there's still be stars, suns, moons, black holes, supernovas... ;-)
